Are The Adoptions The Only Solution?
The real factors that can help solve the problem of stray dogs.
Let's flip the script and start showing empathy and kindness. We are going to start challenging ourselves to be the greatest human beings we can be in each moment and for this project.
The situation of the immense number of dogs on the street and the mistreatment they suffer in the Dominican Republic is an issue that has been touched on many times, however we still do not feel that anything significant has been achieved. Missing?
This topic is not something simple that is achieved with desire, nor is it achieved by posting what we dream of on the networks, much less attacking other people about what we think they should do. Rather it is an individual task of each of us and recognize that to change the current situation in most cities it takes years.
When we accept these points as valid we can begin to act based on what each of us can do. Let's forget about the whole issue of blaming those who do it wrong, let's all focus on those who do it right and how we can praise and motivate them to keep doing it. It is an individual action that gradually leads to working together as a united community.
When I say united community, it would seem redundant, but surely you have seen how in groups that are supposedly fighting for the same cause they attack each other or the hottest topic is always throwing fire at others who do not want to support the cause. We're going to do the complete opposite, we're going to flip the script and start showing empathy and kindness. We are going to start challenging ourselves to be the greatest human beings we can be in each moment and for this project.
With this on the table, let's collect the cards and place others. The situation in a country like the Dominican Republic with dogs on the streets does not have a culprit to point out. We are all responsible for what has happened and continues to happen. Secular education does not include pet awareness programs, governments do not impose intensive projects to regulate the number of dogs on the streets, effective shelters, a decent budget to work towards it. Those who start projects end up exhausted and without resources to continue. That is why instead of proposing solutions to the problem, as if I knew the key to achieving it, I propose to start laying the foundations for change based on education, love and diligence. With trial and error until we find the best method, we can define the best strategy that will lead us to a solution, not immediate, but long-term and lasting.
Let's stop looking for blame please. I've heard a lot that purebred dog
breeders are the cause of the problem. Although there are very irresponsible breeders and puppy mills, they are not the only cause of the problem. This has been going on for more than a hundred years, when it was not common in the country for someone to pay for a dog because his budget could not afford it. On the contrary, if we all changed the discourse and stopped treating each other as enemies and opposing sides, we would achieve more. In fact, the fact that there are those who conserve the breeds by breeding responsibly with high standards is one of the best regulated ways to prevent those who have no education from acquiring purebred puppies and then crossing them without any regulation, this makes them give cheap dogs to those who do not have the capacity to really take care of a dog. The regulation of breeding and working together with those who love dogs, such as good breeders, is a fundamental key to solving these problems.
Who better than someone who wears himself out for his dogs to give them a decent life and provide others with a puppy of specific behavior for his need? We are on the same side and we must join forces so that those who acquire dogs are people who can really afford to have a purebred dog. The same responsible breeders must join the causes that try to solve this problem of stray dogs, promoting adoptions and rescuing according to their possibilities. There are many ways, we just have to consider them and start working on them. It doesn't matter if it's just one person per city, the important thing is to start working.
What do you think, do you have some suggestions that we can apply?
